《美國女孩》是1990年生的阮鳳儀的處女作，一經播出就榮獲了許多獎項，被許多的影評人都評價為年度最佳的電影。這部電影融合了海歸的學院派背景、女導演的細膩，以及還林嘉欣和林書宇的加盟。這三個例題的重合應該是一個非常優質的電影項目。在劇情方面可謂是非常得精彩，情感也非常得真摯，但是在觀眾看完這個影片的實際感受，卻覺得非常凌亂，主旨很不明確。

這些都是因為導演在拍攝的時候，將電影的拍攝視角過多地側重於人物的近景和特寫。雖然能夠達到對人物精神面貌刻畫的目的，但同時也忽視了整體背景的表現。同時，在表現人物性格沖突方面，只是通過無盡的爭執來表現，這無疑太過重復，很容易讓人們產生疲勞和厭倦。

美國ABC電視網前一陣子計劃將布蘭妮（Britney Spears）與她媽媽合寫的書「A Mother''s Gift」改編成電視影集，雖然電視公司在改編時為了戲劇效果而將原本的內容做了些許修改，並且將重點放在劇中代表布蘭妮的女主角Holly與她母親之間的關繫上面，而沒有強調女主角的成名過程，但是由於原著作者是布蘭妮與她母親，因此布蘭妮和她的母親還是全程參與了這部影集的製作過程，連選角也是由布蘭妮和母親一一面試所有演員才做出最後的決定。結果獲得布蘭妮青睞的女主角也和音樂界有些淵源，因為她正是空中補給合唱團（Air Supply）的吉他手Jimmy Haun的千金Lindsey Haun。

這部影集中的女主角Holly和布蘭妮一樣，從小就立志要成為能歌善舞的歌手，因此她參加了許多大大小小的才藝競賽，支持她的母親也讓她進入表演藝術學校學習更多表演技巧，最後她的夢想得以成真，真的成了一位名歌手。為了要確實展現出女主角的多才多藝，布蘭妮在面試時不但要求前來試鏡的演員演技要好，而且還得要現場表演唱歌跳舞，展現歌舞方面的才藝。布蘭妮說Lindsay不但演起戲來入木三分，而且Lindsay一開口唱歌就讓她有驚艷的感覺，因此最後決定要由這位19歲的演員出飾女主角。

Lindsay說當初第一次試鏡時因為她以為Holly是根據布蘭妮改編而成的主角，所以應該也和布蘭妮一樣來自路易斯安那，於是她就試圖模仿路易斯安那的口音，沒想到太過緊張的結果，越講越像德州口音，回家後她心想這次一定搞砸了，沒想到製作單位又打電話叫她參加第二次面試，後來她才從劇本中發現，Holly在劇中的確是來自德州，這讓她有點歪打正著的感覺。
