《美国女孩》是1990年生的阮凤仪的处女作，一经播出就荣获了许多奖项，被许多的影评人都评价为年度最佳的电影。这部电影融合了海归的学院派背景、女导演的细腻，以及还林嘉欣和林书宇的加盟。这三个例题的重合应该是一个非常优质的电影项目。在剧情方面可谓是非常得精彩，情感也非常得真挚，但是在观众看完这个影片的实际感受，却觉得非常凌乱，主旨很不明确。

这些都是因为导演在拍摄的时候，将电影的拍摄视角过多地侧重于人物的近景和特写。虽然能够达到对人物精神面貌刻画的目的，但同时也忽视了整体背景的表现。同时，在表现人物性格冲突方面，只是通过无尽的争执来表现，这无疑太过重复，很容易让人们产生疲劳和厌倦。

美国ABC电视网前一阵子计划将布兰妮（Britney Spears）与她妈妈合写的书“A Mother''s Gift”改编成电视影集，虽然电视公司在改编时为了戏剧效果而将原本的内容做了些许修改，并且将重点放在剧中代表布兰妮的女主角Holly与她母亲之间的关系上面，而没有强调女主角的成名过程，但是由于原著作者是布兰妮与她母亲，因此布兰妮和她的母亲还是全程参与了这部影集的制作过程，连选角也是由布兰妮和母亲一一面试所有演员才做出最后的决定。结果获得布兰妮青睐的女主角也和音乐界有些渊源，因为她正是空中补给合唱团（Air Supply）的吉他手Jimmy Haun的千金Lindsey Haun。

这部影集中的女主角Holly和布兰妮一样，从小就立志要成为能歌善舞的歌手，因此她参加了许多大大小小的才艺竞赛，支持她的母亲也让她进入表演艺术学校学习更多表演技巧，最后她的梦想得以成真，真的成了一位名歌手。为了要确实展现出女主角的多才多艺，布兰妮在面试时不但要求前来试镜的演员演技要好，而且还得要现场表演唱歌跳舞，展现歌舞方面的才艺。布兰妮说Lindsay不但演起戏来入木三分，而且Lindsay一开口唱歌就让她有惊艳的感觉，因此最后决定要由这位19岁的演员出饰女主角。

Lindsay说当初第一次试镜时因为她以为Holly是根据布兰妮改编而成的主角，所以应该也和布兰妮一样来自路易斯安那，于是她就试图模仿路易斯安那的口音，没想到太过紧张的结果，越讲越像德州口音，回家后她心想这次一定搞砸了，没想到制作单位又打电话叫她参加第二次面试，后来她才从剧本中发现，Holly在剧中的确是来自德州，这让她有点歪打正着的感觉。
